What Causes Acne & Pimples:
here are oil glands on your chest, face and back numbering in the thousands. In fact, between the nose and cheek areas there are as many as two thousand oil glands every square inch.

The function of these oil glands is to lubricate the skin by producing oil, or sebum.

Oil that is produced in the glands flows through follicles or tiny ducts to the surface of the skin.

It usually starts far beneath the surface of the skin. A blemish (or internal lump) begins about 2 to 3 weeks before it appears on your skin's surface.

Acne first begins to form in your sebaceous hair follicles.

You know this as "pores", the tiny holes on you skin.

Deep within each hair follicle, sebaceous glands generate sebum, the oil that keeps your skin soft, moist and pliable.

As part of your skin's renewal process the old cells die and are shed off. Normally, this cell shedding process happens gradually, and fresh new skin takes its place.
But sloughing (the process where living tissue is separated from dead skin tissue) is not the same for everyone.

Some people shed cells evenly while others don't. The result of uneven sloughing is that dead cells become sticky, clogging together to form a plug, similar to a cork in a bottle. This plug traps oil and bacteria inside the follicle.
The trapped oil begins to form a lump as your skin continues its normal oil production. Your body's natural defense system then sends an army of white blood cells to attack the bacteria. The whole process takes around 2 to 3 weeks, resulting in a pimple.

Th STEPS to PREVENT pimple:
Remove dead skin cells regularly by exfoliating. Use an abrasive cloth or scrub, or use an over-the-counter chemical exfoliant like salicylic acid and glycolic acid. Remember that over-exfoliating can actually increase the likelihood of red, dry skin by irritating the skin.

NO. Never use exfoliating "pads". They do not work, but this misinformation is propagated by vendors of "Exfoliating" products. I have asked two dermatologists and they confirmed that all these products do is grind whatever dirt and oils are already on your face down deeper into your skin and your pores. Exfoliation is a wonderful and useful thing, but using a coarse pad on your face thinking you are achieving true exfoliation is a myth.

Creams and chemicals may work better for exfoliating. I repeat, do NOT use a coarse pad, scrub, or cloth for this purpose. This includes "St. Ive's" type exfoliating scrubs.

Remove bacteria from your pores. Your skin can become "allergic" to this bacteria. Use anti-bacterial products containing benzoyl peroxide by rubbing, twice daily, into the pores over the affected region or washing with a medicated bar soap or wash. Keep in mind that this may cause dryness, local irritation and redness.

Review your diet and the research surrounding the links between diet and acne. The relationship between food and acne is a debatable topic. Your diet may or may not have an effect on acne.

Consult a dermatologist regarding your acne. Minimize use of medication containing halogens (iodides, chlorides, bromides), lithium, barbiturates, or androgens.

Keep your bedsheets clean. Wash your pillow case on a regular schedule to reduce the transfer of natural body oils.

Wash your face at least two times a day. Use face washes specifically designed to remove oils and bacteria that contribute to acne.

Th WAYs to PREVENT pimple:
One way to prevent pimples is to stick to a healthy diet. A proper balanced diet that includes plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables will keep the skin in peak condition and may prevent excess oil. Food allergies are also a cause of pimples.

One of the best ways to keep skin clear and healthy and to prevent pimples is to drink plenty of water. Drinking at least two liters of water every day is recommended. Sweat lost through the skin can be full of impurities, and drinking water is the best way to flush these impurities out. The more water you drink, the more pure the fluid that will come out in perspiration.
